Best Day Foundation: NJ heads John and Tricia Henkes would like the committee to help them obtain approval to hold events here in Pont Beach this summer. Their organization runs Beach Days for children with special needs with surfing, paddle boarding, various beach activities as well as lunch (supplied by Surf Taco). They normally host about 45 children per event and need 90 volunteers plus to help on event days. Each child needs two “buddies”, one for water activities and the other for beach. Volunteers should be at least 13 years of age. Best Day needs a beach with parking, bathroom, lifeguards. Handicap accessibility is important as well. They provide the children with medals and a goodie bag which we would need to help with. Possible dates are July 7-8, 14-15, 21-22 or August dates tbd. Best Day would like to have a two day event on one weekend during the summer. Bob agreed to talk with the Beach owners as to who would be interested in hosting such an event. We also need to find backup locations should there be a problem with the beach. Pat Cavanaugh has volunteered to be the liaison to this event. Committee voted unanimously to make Best Day happen in town this summer.

Old Business:
*Chair Yoga has found a day for the class. It will start in January and will be held the 4th Thursday at 7:00 in the upstairs large room in the town hall.
*Nutrition Book Club with Carolan Ammirata. Will be held in January, on the 4th Thursday at 6:00. There will be a monthly topics.
There will be some advertising (Ocean Start, PTO- Antrim/HS) for Chair Yoga and Book Club events to make people aware of these events that will be free to the public.
Janice made the motion to accept this proposals and Barbara seconded. The committee voted unanimously to accept both events

*Pickleball Possible tournaments at Antrim. Bob will check on possible fees for use. Scott makes the motion, and Carolan seconds it. The committee voted unanimously to further consideration

*Holiday Decorating Contest This was something that was done years ago and let go, committee would like to start it up again as a fun town activity. Carolan will be the chair. Carol Vacarro from the Chamber of Commerce discussed how it had be done previously and ways to do it now. Participants will need to register with town (free). One way to let people know about the contest is through the reverse 911 system. Contest will be judged on December 17th. There will be three prizes, possible ideas beach badges, locker for summer, restaurant dinner. Advertising again through the Ocean Star and schools PTO. Bob made a motion to accept, Patrick seconded it was unanimously accepted by committee.

*Recreation Basketball Practices will start on 11/1 7:00-9:00. The first game is December 1 and will run through March. Same director and referees are involved this year as last (with background checks) and prices will remain the same. For 1-$70., 2-$120., family $135. For 3-4 grades they will need only 1 ref and 1 clock operator. Grades 5, 6, and 7 will need 2 ref and a 1 clock operator. Barbara Seaman will be the boards liaison for this committee/event. Committee voted unanimously to approve.

*Open Gym was not approved this year. We should start the process earlier next year to ensure it happens. Let’s think August.

Outdoor Lighting and Vandalism: Pickleball nets were vandalize shortly after being installed. We need new/more lighting to be put in Pleasure Park, the Inlet and South Jenkinson's could also use additional lighting..

New Business
Summer Time Surf Camp: Janice Aportela and Scot Crowley will work on this together this year. They would like to have several sessions of camp but need to talk about that with Gil who owns the camp.

Acting Chairperson for the Rec Committee will be Carolan Ammirata for the rest of 2017

Meeting ended around 8:40. Our next meeting will be November 27 at 7PM

Respectfully Submitted
Debra Bodine-Vazquez
