Point Pleasant Beach Shade Tree Commission

Present: Anne Lightburn, Elaine Hennessy, Peter Ritchings, and Peter Renner
Absent: Councilman Vogel

Anne Lightburn called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Minutes from the May 1 meeting were approved as corrected. As Anne will be away for the July STC meeting, the decision was to not hold a meeting.

The commission discussed the non-compliance of Brave New World to replant trees. The forfeited bond money could be used to plant trees. It was suggested that plants might work. Peter Ritchings indicated that planters would cost about $1,000 and most likely need watering. Anne will follow-up to see if Mr. Lamers has responded to the borough’s letter to replant.

In light of Clem Bremer’s resignation, Peter Renner will contact Tom Davis to determine his interest. All agreed he would be an excellent addition.

Peter Ritchings and Elaine Hennessey volunteered to do a little research to learn how Brielle and Manasquan get street trees planted. Both seem to have successful street tree replacement programs.

Peter Renner reported on the county removal of the hazard tree at 300 Chicago. It was the opinion of the Ocean County Freeholders that the property owners will not be required to replant. At tree was also removed at 11 Chicago.

Peter Renner recommended that Elaine Hennessy and Clem Bremer will meet with Father Bob regarding replanting of tree(s) by the Catholic Church.

Peter presented information on the 200 and 300 block of Washington Avenue for STC members to fill out with their recommendations for six street trees to be planted with forfeited bond monies. He also provided a street tree inventory form for members to fill-out. Elaine Hennessey volunteered to do District 2.

Anne volunteered to send Chris Riehl an email regarding dead/dying trees on 35N and the Railroad Station bus stop and the street end at Trenton and the RR tracks.

Peter Ritchings is going to check on trees ordinances for Bradley Beach and Manasquan for potential improvements to ours and volunteer to look at aggressive pruning and hazardous trees specifically.

Meeting adjourned 8:20 pm
