EARTH DAY AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION WEEK
ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER…
We’d like to help showcase your efforts!

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has administered the Earth Day - New Jersey website (www.earthdayNJ.org ) for more than 15 years. Each year, the site attracts more than 40,000 visitors in April through May. The Earth Day – New Jersey website features an events calendar, school programs listing, history of Earth Day and Environmental Education Week, and suggestions for what families, students and individuals can do to help protect the environment year-round and celebrate Earth Day “every day.”

In celebration of “Environmental Education Week” (April 19 – 25), the website will showcase your programs along with descriptions of the lessons and projects that students and schools are doing in classrooms and communities statewide to celebrate the week. The national theme for Environmental Education Week 2015 is “Greening STEM: Surrounded by Science”. To submit information about your environmental education activities to be conducted in April – early May, go to www.nj.gov/dep/seeds/earthday/calsub.htm.

This year is also the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, which is celebrated each year on April 22. New Jersey is home to numerous Earth Day events, green fairs, clean-ups, trail work, tree plantings and other environmental celebrations that are held around this date. Some of these celebrations occur on the weekends and are open to the public. To submit details about your public event, go to www.nj.gov/dep/seeds/earthday/calsub.htm.

The Earth Day - New Jersey website is promoted to and used by media, schools, students, volunteers and volunteer groups, scouts, youth groups, companies, municipal leaders, families and other individuals. DEP also uses the information posted on the website to determine the participation of its own speakers, displays and the distribution of its public education information.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.earthdayNJ.org to locate events and programs near them.
