Flood Hazard Risk Reduction/Resiliency Grant

$50 Million Program that provides funding for construction-ready flood control projects through a competitive grant process.
Open to municipal and county governments in Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, or Union Counties. Regional coordination on projects is encouraged.
Coastal Lakes Surge Reduction and Increased Discharge Capacity;
Flood Risk Reduction Infrastructure (levees, tide gates, flood barriers, etc.);
Beneficial Use of Dredge Material
Projects must address an impact caused by Superstorm Sandy, reduce flooding risk, improve flood resiliency, and meet an unmet need.
Funding is provided through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’S) Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program. HUD CDBG-DR requirements must be followed as a condition of funding. Because DEP must meet a goal of 25% Low and Moderate Income Area Benefit for this funding, preference may be given to these areas in accordance with HUD’s National Objectives.
