Meeting Discussion

The meeting opened at 7:15 PM.

The minutes of the October 28 meeting were approved.

Joe Fitzsimmons discussed the basketball program. We have 154 signups so far. Joe then reviewed the number of teams and schedule. Matt Nagle requested the teams have more practice time. Glen Paesano noted that Dr. Ravally has authorized extra court time on Saturdays at no cost, feeling it was in the best interest of the children. The player fee this year has been reduced from $85 to $75 to attract more players. Matt requested that we cut down on the number of officials and paid timekeepers. Joe Fitzsimmons would prefer 2 officials for the 5th and 6th grade boys. After discussion the Committee decided to stay with 1 referee for the 5th and 6th grade boys. Since the Town cannot help with background checks, an on-line service Sports Sign Up.com will be used. Matt will ask Coaches and Assistant Coaches to do on-line check and be reimbursed the $20 fee by the Committee. Glen will ask Cathy Beno to arrange for disbursement of funds. The basketball teams will utilize Pleasure Park basketball courts whether permitting after receiving a permit with insurance from the Town. There will be a 12 game schedule for the 5th & 6th grade boys at a cost of $34 extra per game. The pre-season clinics were ru the last two Saturdays by Jeff Clark and were well attended. Maryjane Reilly asked if high school players will be involved in the program. Joe Fitzsimmons will reach out to the Girls High School coach for help.

Joe will also ask the home team coaches to do the book with the visiting coaches responsible for the clock. Games will begin December 9. Matt Nagle reported that the game shirts will be $8 each with sponsor names printed. We have 22 business sponsors each providing $100 for the shirts. Carol Vaccaro of the Chamber helped solicit the sponsors.

Glen Paesano reported we needed additional volunteers from 5:30 to 8:00 PM the night of the Christmas Tree Lighting. We are also reaching out to the Key Club and H. S. Football team for help. The Chamber has provided $2,000 of the $5,000 Town funding to help defray Committee expenses (e.g. reindeer $1300; other $1800).

The Committee agreed to run an ad in the Ocean Star seeking more Committee members.

Andy Cortes reported the the playground equipment was in and that he picked it up from Public Works. Would wait till Spring to install. Lights in the Park are being looked at.

The Committees next meeting will be Monday January 27 and will serve as the
Reorganization meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Maryjane Reilly
Recording Secretary
