ATTENTION POINT PLEASANT BEACH RESIDENTS
Our Animal Control Officer Muskrat Jack has confirmed that a raccoon that was captured on Friday, September 16th 2011, has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was captured during the daytime on Long Point Lane in Point Pleasant Beach.
We are asking residents and visitors to avoid all contact with any unleashed animal, and to call the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department should they observe or come into contact with any animals that appear to be sick, aggressive, or seem to be acting strangely. Symptoms include changes in behavior, including aggression and agitation and excessive salivation.
Please do not attempt to feed, trap, or take any wild animal into your home. We would also encourage adults to teach children to never approach unfamiliar dogs, cats or wildlife, even if they appear friendly. Animals that are outdoors may be exposed to rabies from other wild animals, and we suggest that residents keep their pets leashed, and inside your home, and have valid rabies vaccinations.
The Borough of Point Pleasant Beach will continue to keep you informed of any new reports. Should you need to report a suspicious animal, the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department can be reached at 732-892-0500, and Muskrat Jack, our Animal Control Officer can be reached at 732-295-1618.
